Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza:

Avian influenza has been found in two commercial flocks and a few back yard flocks since the start of the year.

Now, there will be no sale of live birds in Georgia until the issue is resolved, including chicks at farm stores, flea markets, personal gardens.

Do not buy a live bird from anyone.

If you want chickens for your home use, look for fertilized eggs to incubate yourself.

Eggs have no way to contract influenza.

Georgia is the number one producer of poultry, generating over $4 billion annually.

The spread of this could be detrimental for the poultry industry and farmers.

Please read the attached email regarding what was done to the small, backyard flocks, as well as tips to look out for in your own flock.

Wild birds can spread influenza as well.

Do not touch a dead bird and report suspicions of cases to GA Department of AG.
